Talismans and Charms: Spellbinding in Stories from The 1001 Nights
Marina Warner
Marina Warner will explore the uses of enchantment in The Arabian Nights, and especially the magical activity of ordinary things such as carpets, lamps, and saucepans. The book travels to fairy paradises and supernatural exotic landscapes but it also uncovers the magic at work in the everyday.
Marina Warner is Professor of Literature at the University of Essex. She has published on fairy tales and myths, including From the Beast to the Blonde: On Fairytales and their Tellers (1994); Managing Monsters (The BBC Reith Lectures, 1994) and, most recently, Phantasmagoria: Spirit Visions, Metaphors, and Media (2006). She has also written stories and novels, including The Leto Bundle (2001).
