Managing our psychogenetic inheritance
Speaker: Dr. Meredith Belbin
3rd November 2001
Dr. Belbin, best known for his work on teams, now considers the way in which continuing evolution has produced distinct patterns of behaviour for men and women. In this lecture he will be looking at how much human behaviour is accounted for in terms of learning and cultural influence, and how other forms of behaviour have evolved through natural selection and can manifest themselves as counter-culture. The nature of psychogenetic inheritance will be discussed, along with the problems to which it gives rise and the remedial policies it suggests.
Meredith Belbin is a Partner in Belbin Associates, Visiting Professor at the Institute of Leadership Studies at Exeter and Senior Associate of the Judge Institute of Management Studies at Cambridge. Dr. Belbin is the author of a number of well0-known books, including Management Teams - Why They Fail; The Job Promoters - A Journey to a New Profession; Teams Roles at Work; The Coming Shape of Organisation; and Changing the Way We Work. In his writing, he draws on his extensive work with organisations worldwide to give insight into team and group interactions.
