Pain control with hypnosis
Dr. John Butler

Dr. John Butler is an expert on the ability of people to use the resources of their minds to achieve more than they believed possible. The basis of his work is clinical hypnosis, as developed with a powerful and sophisticated theoretical basis over the last two hundred years by a series of brilliant and innovative individuals, including Franz Mesmer, Pierre Janet and Ivan Pavlov. This development is still continuing, aided now by new techniques of neurological investigation. Dr. Butler has used hypnotic methods for many years to help people overcome long-standing emotional conflicts and behavioural problems, and to control their consciousness of physical pain. A feature of his presentation was his use of hypnotic analgesia in surgery. During the presentation, he gave a demonstration of hypnotic techniques with the help of volunteers.

Dr. John Butler has been involved in the therapeutic use of hypnosis for over 25 years. He has studied many different systems of hypnotherapy and other methods of developing mental resources. He also holds degrees in psychology and medical science, including a PhD in neuroanatomy. As well as being a hypnotherapy practitioner and teacher, he lectures in medical psychology and demonstrates in neuroanatomy at the Guys, St. Thomas's and Kings College combined Medical Schools, where he also pursues his research interests. He has contributed to many articles in the press, and to radio and TV programmes, most recently performing hypnosis for a hernia repair surgery which was broadcast live on Channel 4's digital channel, More4. He is the clinical author of a popular book on hypnotherapy, Secrets of Hypnosis.
