Music, pleasure and the brain
Dr. Harry Witchel
Dr. Harry Witchel received his Ph.D. in Physiology from the University of California at Berkeley, and has since continued his research at the Medical School in Bristol. Dr. Witchel mixes science and entertainment to inspire young people to become the scientists of tomorrow. For the last two years he has appeared regularly on BBC Television's Mind Games. He has participated in many public programmes for The Royal Society, The Royal Institution, the Dana Centre for the Brain, and the University of Bristol.
In this interactive demonstration, he asks why music makes us feel so good. He will be joined by clarinettist Karl Dürr-Sĝrensen and French horn player Dominic Nunns from the New London Orchestra to show how the body and the brain are influenced by different kinds of music.
